EarthDaily Commits to Net-Zero Emissions by 2040

Written by EarthDaily | Oct 16, 2026, 4:31:50 AM

At EarthDaily, sustainability is not a separate initiative; it is a guiding principle in how we operate, innovate, and grow. As a Canadian company advancing Earth Observation and AI-ready analytics, we believe that leading the world in climate intelligence begins with accountability at home. Our purpose to help organizations capture, comprehend, and change the world is inseparable from our responsibility to measure and reduce our own impact on it.

EarthDaily has committed to reaching net-zero greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by 2040. We have also set interim targets for 2030 and published our updated 2025 Corporate GHG Inventory Report, prepared by Ostrom Climate.

Our commitment

In 2025, EarthDaily joined the Government of Canada's Net-Zero Challenge, a voluntary federal program that supports businesses in developing credible plans to reach net-zero emissions. As part of our participation in the program, we have set the following targets for our Canadian operations, using 2025 as our baseline year.

Scope First interim target (2030) Net-zero target (2040)
Scope 1 (direct emissions) Maintain zero emissions (no Scope 1 sources) 2040
Scope 2 (purchased electricity) 100% reduction (market-based) by buying renewable energy certificates (RECs) for all office electricity 2040
Scope 3 (other indirect emissions) 20% reduction in emissions intensity against 2025, from 4.2 to 3.4 tCO₂e per employee 2040: absolute net zero, with residual emissions neutralized with removal credits

Our 2023 and 2025 emissions

EarthDaily's Canadian operations emitted 338.0 tCO₂e in 2025 and 164.9 tCO₂e in 2023. Because 2023 was a startup year, 2025 was selected as the baseline year, so that a more complete inventory forms the basis for our targets.

The updated report uses actual 2025 activity data. It replaces the 2025 estimates published in our October 2025 report, and revises some 2023 values.

Emissions source 2023 (tCO₂e) 2025 (tCO₂e) % of 2025 total
Business travel 124.3 264.9 78.4%
Employee commute and teleworking 26.8 32.0 9.5%
Purchased goods and services (incl. cloud computing) 1.8 29.1 8.6%
Capital goods 11.1 11.1 3.3%
Purchased electricity (Scope 2) 0.9 0.9 0.3%
Fuel- and energy-related activities 0.1 0.1 <0.1%
Total 164.9 338.0 100%

Figures may not add due to rounding.

  • Air travel was the largest source of emissions in both years: 73.5% of the total in 2023 and 76.3% in 2025.
  • Cloud computing emissions increased from 0.1 tCO₂e in 2023 to 27.2 tCO₂e in 2025, as EarthDaily ramped up operations after startup.
  • EarthDaily has no Scope 1 emissions and very small Scope 2 emissions. Our Vancouver head office is in a LEED® Platinum building, and we have no fleet vehicles.
  • Emissions intensity rose from 2.1 to 4.2 tCO₂e per employee. Total emissions increased by 105%, mainly from air travel and cloud computing, while Canadian headcount grew only from 78 to 80.

The inventory follows the GHG Protocol's operational control approach, with a boundary of EarthDaily's Canadian operations.

Our reduction plan

Ostrom Climate recommends that EarthDaily prioritize the largest sources of emissions first. Our reduction plan focuses on:

  • Business travel: adopting virtual-first meetings for internal and routine client meetings, and establishing an air travel policy that minimizes air travel, groups meetings by region, limits the number of staff on each trip, and favours economy or premium economy class and direct flights.
  • Cloud computing: cloud services were our third-largest source in 2025 (8.0%), and this category will increase as more satellites come online. The focus is on choosing suppliers based on their sustainability performance, optimizing data processing and storage, and requesting detailed GHG data from suppliers.
  • Capital goods: extending the life of laptops and other IT equipment, buying refurbished or eco-labelled equipment where suitable, and requesting product carbon footprints from suppliers.
  • Electricity: buying RECs for all office electricity and promoting mindful energy use by staff.

If EarthDaily purchases carbon credits, it will comply with the requirements of the Net-Zero Challenge Technical Guide. All credits will come from Canadian federal or provincial offset systems, ICVCM CCP-approved categories, or ICROA-endorsed programs, with preference given to BC and Canadian projects.

Governance and reporting

EarthDaily has established governance and reporting procedures to meet the expectations of the Net-Zero Challenge:

  • Accountability: the Director, Project Management Office owns the net-zero plan. The Executive Team reviews progress at least twice a year.
  • Annual cycle: EarthDaily will update its GHG inventory each year, report Scope 3 emissions intensity and absolute emissions, report carbon credits and RECs separately from reductions, and submit the Net-Zero Challenge Annual Questionnaire.
  • Public disclosure: EarthDaily will publish its 2040 net-zero commitment and 2030 interim targets on its website or LinkedIn, beginning with this post.
  • Review: EarthDaily will revisit its targets by 2030 at the latest, and whenever growth, acquisitions or methodology changes shift the baseline by 5% or more.

Beyond compliance

Our commitment to net zero is about more than compliance. It reflects how we approach every part of our business, including delivering the data that helps others make better environmental decisions. Through daily, consistent, AI-ready Earth Observation, EarthDaily enables industries across agriculture, forestry, mining, insurance, and government to monitor environmental change, manage risk, and measure impact at a planetary scale.

Every pixel we capture and every tonne of carbon we eliminate moves us closer to a sustainable future for Canada and the world. EarthDaily is purpose-built for broad-area environmental intelligence and committed to achieving net zero through innovation, accountability, and action.
