Should we be concerned about the heavy rains in France?

The rains of the last 30 days were well above the 15-year average throughout France ①, with record precipitation greatly exceeding that of most of the previous years, like the situation in the east of the country, particularly in the French “département” of Marne ②. This exceptional rainfall phenomenon has led to several floods in the territory, and concerns about the risk of prolonged excess water in the fields.

The soil moisture map for the next 10 days ① shows values close to the 15-year average in the East, and less than 5% higher than the average in the West of the country, which is not exceptional. Thus, in the French “département” of Indre for example, the dry trend anticipated for the next 14 days by the European model ECMWF ②, should lead to a favorable drop in soil moisture, with values at the end of the forecast close to the averages. ③. To monitor!
