EarthDaily Analytics Awarded Canadian Space Agency Contribution to Enable Scientific-Quality Thermal Detection for Medium to Small Satellites
Breakthrough thermal calibration technology being added to EarthDaily’s EarthPipeline ground segment to democratize and dramatically expand access to high-quality thermal sensing solutions in diverse fields including natural resource management, wildfire analysis, water optimization and crop health monitoring.
Vancouver, BC – February 21, 2023 – EarthDaily Analytics Corp. (“EDA” or the “Company”), a vertically-integrated software and analytics space company developing world-first technologies in data services, satellite processing, machine learning and actionable insights, today announced that the Company has been awarded a $1M Canadian Space Agency (“CSA”) contribution. The funded project, namely EDA’s Advanced Thermal Band Calibration and Processing for Small Satellite Missions, aims to expand the use of analytics-ready thermal detection to a range of medium to small Earth Observation (“EO”) satellites.
EDA’s advanced thermal band calibration and processing expertise aims to enable all present and future medium-to-small satellites, including but not limited to the Company’s own forthcoming 10-satellite Constellation, to deliver thermal data with unprecedentedly high quality. Widespread cost-effective, high-revisit change detection and monitoring in place would allow public and private sectors to effectively address natural resource management, wildfire analysis, water optimization and crop health.
“To accurately image in the range of thermal band wavelengths is extremely challenging but at the same time inspiring. Current missions with thermal band acquisitions are either near-daily revisits with low resolution or high resolution with far less frequent revisits – nothing like ours,” Don Osborne, CEO of EarthDaily Analytics, said. “With the right tool like our thermal bands, plus daily monitoring with a much higher revisit rate at the global scale, provided by our Constellation, environmental risks can be predicted and mitigated.”
In addition to EarthDaily Constellation, EarthPipeline is another equally advanced technology EDA offers: the world’s first fully managed ground segment pipeline as a service, which the CSA-funded thermal bands are part of. Known for its ability to easily and cost-effectively transform all types of downlinked satellite data into Analysis Ready Data (ARD) designed for machine learning, artificial intelligence and automated insights, EarthPipeline scales up satellite missions and value chains within the space industry, while maintaining optimal Total Cost of Ownership (TOC).
“For EDA, this funding from the Canadian Space Agency represents a mark of confidence to our engineering capabilities but also a reaffirmation of the pressing need for more medium to small satellites around the world to adopt such a groundbreaking technology like ours,” Osborne added. “I am incredibly proud of our team for receiving this support from the Canadian government, and for developing a solution with the potential to positively impact wide swaths of the Canadian economy and environment.”
