VENµS L2A GeoTIFFs on AWS by EarthDaily Analytics

For Immediate Release – VANCOUVER, BC, May 15, 2023 – EarthDaily Analytics (“EDA””), a vertically-integrated software and analytics space company developing world-first technologies in data services, satellite processing, machine learning and actionable insights, today announced that VENµS L2A Cloud-Optimized GeoTIFFs is now openly accessible on Amazon Web Services (AWS).

Better information sharing has the power to accelerate discoveries and improve the world around us. Potential customers can now experience VENµS L2A Cloud-Optimized GeoTIFFs, via AWS, without needing to pay to store their own copies. With 12 multi-spectral bands and daily to bi-daily coverage, the Venµs Data shares similarities as our forthcoming 10-satellite EarthDaily Constellation, particularly the scientific-grade quality. The EarthDaily Constellation will cover 98% of the Earth’s landmass every day with additional SWIR and thermal bands, delivering satellite imagery at a scale larger than the Venµs Data.

“In a world where decision-making is data driven, the quality of data is everything. How effectively the impacts on Earth are measured determines outcomes of the decisions,” said Christopher Rampersad, VP of Engineering at EarthDaily Analytics. “The integration of Venµs Data into the AWS ecosystem marks a significant milestone in accelerating the journey to unlock the unprecedented insights from our datasets that will enable our customers to make informed decisions with the magnitude of accuracy and efficiency unseen before.”

The data retrieval process from the original CNES platform to Venµs Data is seamless and automated due to innovative EarthPipeline data processing technology, which optimizes the data accessibility by converting it into a cloud-optimized image format (COG) and adds STAC metadata. With this alignment in place, potential customers are able to use Venµs Data for scientific-grade retrospective time-series analysis and forward-looking perspective analytics. The processed data is then stored in an easily accessible Amazon Simple Storage Service (Amazon S3) bucket and made available through the AWS Open Data Sponsorship Program.

The AWS Open Data Sponsorship Program makes high value, cloud optimized datasets widely available through a shared platform. Through the platform, AWS has democratized access to petabytes of data, including satellite imagery, climate and weather data, genomic data, and data used for natural language processing. The full list of publicly available datasets is available through the Registry of Open Data on AWS.

About Venµs Data

The Venµs science mission is a joint research mission undertaken by CNES, French National Centre for Space Studies and ISA, the Israel Space Agency. It aims to demonstrate the effectiveness of high-resolution multi-temporal observation optimised through Copernicus, the global environmental and security monitoring programme. Venµs was launched from the Centre Spatial Guyanais by a VEGA rocket, during the night from 2017, August 1st to 2nd. Thanks to its multispectral camera (12 spectral bands in the visible and near-infrared), it acquires imagery every 1-2 days over 100+ areas at a spatial resolution of 4 to 5m. This dataset has been converted into Cloud Optimized GeoTIFFs (COGs). Additionally, SpatioTemporal Asset Catalog metadata are generated in a JSON file alongside the data. This dataset contains all of the Venµs L2A datasets and will continue to grow as the Venµs mission acquires new data over the preselected sites.
